I signed myself up with a Twitter account a few weeks ago and I’m still trying to get the hang of it. Twitter confuses me. I’m able to admit that. I haven’t found a way to interact with Twitter in a capacity that gives it a meaning to me. If I stopped using Twitter tomorrow it probably wouldn’t really bother me. On the other hand, if I stopped using Facebook cold turkey, I would definitely have to go through an adjustment period.

I’m sure as I use it more and more and I follow more people and have more followers (how pretentious does that sound?), I’ll develop an affinity and a use for it the same way I have with Facebook. It’s just taking longer than I’d like…

Any tips on helping this transition along?

  1. Hey buddy,

Just add some interesting people from all sorts of backgrounds, industries, etc. This wiki is useful in finding the type of people you might be interested in following:

Send me an e-mail, Twitter DM, Facebook message or whatever and I can hook you up with some people who helped me get started. Twitter is not all about getting a ton of people to follow you, but when you’re starting out and the people you add show interest in following you back, it feels really good and will help you figure out what to do in that space a little more.

  2. Hey Marc,
I’ll back up Rayanne on that. I’d also recommend finding a good client that you can just toss up on your desktop and have it update every few minutes so you can follow the conversations without having to think about refreshing your browser.

I’ve been using snitter for a little while and find it works well. But try a few and see what works for you.
